Boom! Studios Revives TV’s Original Avengers, Steed & Mrs. Peel

While the general public knows Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Thor as the Avengers, they weren’t the first group to use that name. The British TV series, “The Avengers” predated Marvel’s Avengers by two years when it premiered in 1961.

“The Avengers” TV series largely focused on British secret agent, John Steed (Patrick Macnee) and several different partners over the course of the series. But the most famous of Steed’s partners was Emma Peel, as played by Diana Rigg.

This summer, Boom! Studios will revisit “The Avengers” with a new six issue miniseries called Steed and Mrs. Peel. Ian Edginton (Hinterkind) will write the miniseries alongside artist Marco Cosentino (Grimm Fairy Tales) and cover artist Stacey Lee as the title characters investigate a new conspiracy.

According to Bleeding Cool, the new Steed & Mrs. Peel miniseries will be more stylized than Boom! Studios’ 2012 reboot of the franchise. Boom! has also previously reprinted the Steed & Mrs. Peel comics written by Grant Morrison and Anne Caulfield for Eclipse Comics back in the ‘90s.

Boom! Studios will release Steed & Mrs. Peel this July.
