Glenn Maxwell smashed 95 to help the Kings XI Punjab get past Chennai Super Kings to lead a number of Aussie efforts in Friday’s run of IPL matches.

Maxwell’s near century came off just 43 balls as the Kings XI caught the Chennai total with seven balls to spare.

Watson captained the Rajasthan Royals to a four wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, however scored just three runs when he tried to defend a delivery from Ishant Sharma which collected thick edge and sailed through to keeper Lokesh Rahul.

James Faulkner did a little better, smashing consecutive 4s with the fourth and fifth final deliveries of the innings to secure the win, atoning for three wicket-less overs at the cost of 27 runs.

Warner scored 32 runs from 35 balls for the Sunrisers.

Mitchell Starc’s IPL season kicked off with an eight-wicket Royal Challengers Bangalore win over Delhi Daredevils earlier in the week. Starc’s collected Delhi opener Mayank Agarwal and finished with figures of 1-33 at an economy rate of 8.25.
