VIDEO: Angels’ Don Baylor Breaks Leg During Ceremonial First Pitch

Man, nothing like seeing a senior citizen (not to mention a baseball legend) get seriously injured during Opening Day ceremonies.

But unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened Monday for new Los Angeles Angels’ hitting coach Don Baylor.

The 64-year-old was on the receiving end of the first pitch from former outfielder Vladimir Guerrero Monday night before the Angels’ home opener against the Seattle Mariners.

But as you can see from this Instagram video posted by Crave sports site NESN, the throw from Guerrero went low and away, forcing Baylor to stretch and try to backhand the ball.

And that’s when his leg gave out.

Result: a fractured right femur for the slugger who powered the Angels for several years during the late 70s and early 80s.

Baylor was in obvious pain, but was helped off the field and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.  He was expected to undergo surgery Tuesday.

And to heap more insult on the Angels’ injury, the Halos got thumped by the Mariners 10-3.

Ya gotta hope this isn’t a sign of the season to come if you’re an Angels fan.
