March Madness 2014: Best Buzzer-Beaters Of All-Time

In the 1981 NCAA tournament, Arkansas battled Louisville in the 2nd round. Down 1 point, Arkansas’s Reed dribbled to half-court before letting his shot fly. Miraculously the shot goes in and even causes the announcer to yell “Holy Crap.” As someone who hates Louisville, video of Reed’s shot is a welcome sight for me.

With only 4.8 seconds to play, the Bruins trailed Missouri by one point and had to go the full length of the court. Point guard Tyus Edney did just that, flying down the court and hitting a bank shot in the paint with no time left. UCLA advanced to the Sweet 16 and eventually won the national title

Facing Ole Miss and the impossible, Valpo’s Jaime Sykes threw an inbounds pass over the mid court line where Bill Jenkins caught it and immediately tapped it over to a running Bryce Drew who popped the game winning three as the buzzer sounded. Then dove to the floor. The image and the radio call have become a March Madness staple.

Dereck Wittenburg’s airball turned out to be an alley-oop when Lorenzo Charles snatched it out of the air and dunked it as time expired for the national championship.

In a game that is generally accepted as the greatest game in college basketball history, Duke’s Christian Laettner took a full court pass from Grant Hill with 2.1 left and hit ‘the shot’ to beat Kentucky and advance to the Final Four.
