Kia is bringing its new luxury car, the 2015 K900 to Southern California as a showpiece amidst the 2014 LPGA Kia Classic.
Defending champion Beatriz Recari will look to defend her title at the tournament’s home base, the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort. The K900 will stand proudly near the 18th hole, drawing the eyes of folks who enjoy professional golf on luxury courses — in other words, people who can afford the new luxury ride.
The K900 is an aggressive play by Kia – an automaker known up until now as a maker of more mass market affordable cars. The new four door luxury car is expected this spring with a starting price tag of $60,000. To separate its identity from the rest of the Kia line, the K900 is stripped of the traditional Korean car’s badges.
As a golf course for the average player, Aviara serves up a mighty challenge. It’s long and narrow, with ample trees and water haunting several holes on both the front and back nine.
There are pleasant par threes tucked into winding creek’s, forging an island hole with a multi-tiered green. There are tee boxes set before lines of tall, converging trees — demanding a straight tee shot, lest you have to unseal a new sleeve of balls.
Once the LPGA gunners have moved on to the next tour stop, Aviara waits just north of San Diego to give any golfer a taste of what the pros face on any given weekend.
