Super Bowl 2014: Jesse Williams: Australia’s First Big Game Winner

Queenslander Jesse Williams became Australia’s first Super Bowl winner when the Seattle Seahawks crushed the Denver Broncos on Sunday night.

The 191c, 147kg Williams is set to become the first Aussie honoured with a Super Bowl ring, but unfortunately for the massive defensive tackle the hardware won’t come in the way he probably would have liked.

Williams was a fifth round draft pick of the Seahawks last April after playing college football at Alabama, but wasn’t able to impact much of Seattle’s season after suffering a season-ending knee injury during camp.

Despite not playing a single minute during the Seahawks’ season, Williams will most likely benefit from the NFL tradition that sees each member of the Super Bowl winning team’s roster receive a ring.

Williams wasn’t the only Australian getting in on the Super Bowl festivities- AFL stars Gary Ablett and Scott Pendlebury made the trip over, even snapping a pic Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.
