Michael Pitt Takes on ‘Hannibal’ Season 2

In the upcoming season of “Hannibal,” Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is in prison for murder and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) is free to keep murdering and mutilating anyone who catches his eye. Now, Hannibal will have someone new to play with.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Michael Pitt will appear in “Hannibal” Season 2 as Mason Verger, a role originated by Gary Oldman> in the 2001 Hannibal feature film that was based upon Thomas Harris’ novel of the same name. Verger is Hannibal’s very wealthy patient who “begins a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with the deadly serial killer.” Katharine Isabelle (“Being Human”) will play Verger’s sister Margo.

This will be the first time that Verger has been depicted prior to his appearance in the Hannibal film and novel. Assuming that Mason Verger’s fate remains intact, expect Verger to hold a very serious grudge against the good doctor.

Pitt is best known for co-starring in the first two seasons of “Boardwalk Empire” as Jimmy Darmody, in addition to his turns in Bully, Murder by Numbers, The Dreamers, Silk and The Village.

“Hannibal” Season 2 begins on Friday, February 28.
