Sochi Olympics 2014: Thoughts On Ralph Lauren’s Olympic Uniforms?

Well at least Ralph Lauren had the presence of mind to ensure all American Olympic uniforms were made in the United States this time around. The style, however… still in question.

The Ralph Lauren-made getups were unveiled on The Today Show Thursday morning. The unis will be worn by all American athletes for the opening ceremonies for Sochi 2014 on Feb. 7.Considering they look exactly like ugly Christmas sweaters, the internet’s reaction has been abuzz with critique — to say the least.

According to some, the inspiration of the uniforms was to honor Russian folk dress.

Hmmm…

This Russian folk dress will cost you though, if you’re interested in purchasing that is:

[Today]

A knit patchwork cardigan emblazoned with stars ($598), paired with a cream cotton turtleneck sweater ($245), slim-fitting white fleece athletic pants bearing the “Team USA” label ($165), black leather boots with bright red laces ($395) and a cotton belt accented with American graphics ($75). Of course, there’s also a reindeer hat ($95).

I’m no math major, but I believe that’s nearly $1,600 for one outfit. The good news is that the proceeds go towards supporting the American athletes at the games.
