CES 2014: Samsung’s New Curved TV Bendable at the Touch of a Button

We knew curved TV screens were going to be one of the hot new trends coming out of the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show — but what we hadn’t counted on was having user control over just how much curve your new mega-display would have.

Not long after Samsung unveiled its whopping 105-inch curved Ultra HD TV Monday (with a questionable assist from Transformers director Michael Bay, no less), Samsung announced 55-, 65- and 78-inch versions of the curved 4K screens — as well as showing off an 85-incher that will display either curved or flat according to the user’s wish.

Samsung says don’t get too excited just yet: the bendy screen is only a prototype at this point.  But it’s probably not a stretch to expect a mass-produced version isn’t too far down the road.

Samsung’s announcement was matched by one of their fiercest rivals LG, who pulled the curtain back to unveil a 77-inch flexible OLED television of their own Monday.

So far, no word from either company on the two biggest questions: when the screens will hit store shelves and how much they’ll set you back.
