Fast and Furious 6 Proceeds Going to Paul Walker’s Charity

We are still shaken by the death of Paul Walker on Saturday. I just interviewed him two weeks before for his film Hours, which we will present next week in anticipation of the film’s opening. His death is a devastating reminder how fragile life can be, which we sometimes take for granted. Next week will also mark the home video release of Walker’s summer hit Fast and Furious 6, and today Universal Home Entertainment made an announcement regarding sales of DVDs and Blu-rays.

From a press release sent out by USHE today:

“With the passing of Paul, the world has lost a man who spent a great deal of his life in service to others.  We share in the deep grief of his family, friends and the countless fans who love him,” said Donna Langley, Chairman, Universal Pictures.  “We keep Paul’s memory alive and honor his legacy through continued support of Reach Out WorldWide, the non-profit he founded to give hope to those who must rebuild after they have experienced natural disasters.”

Fast & Furious 6 will be available in North America on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and On Demand on December 10, 2013.

Paul Walker’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations be made to support Paul’s charity.  To learn more about the efforts of Reach Out WorldWide or make a direct donation, please visit www.roww.org.

The automobile accident on November 30 claimed the lives of Walker and Reach Out WorldWide partner Roger Rodas, following a Reach Out WorldWide charity event. Since then, the industry has been faced with sensitive decisions. Pantelion Films decided to continue with plans to release Hours in theaters and VOD December 13. Universal Studios held a conference call to discuss how to handle the completion of Fast and Furious 7 filming. Fast and Furious 6 is a wonderful movie celebrating awesome stunts and family bonds, so I feel a small comfort that it’s still okay to celebrate this film, and doing so will contribute to Walker’s legacy.
