Mark Webber Third At US Grand Prix

Red Bull Racing enjoyed a successful Sunday at the US Grand Prix as world champion Sebastian Vettel took honours and Australian teammate Mark Webber nabbed third.

Webber, participating in his second last F1 GP, saw Vettel steal pole position on the final lap of Saturday’s qualifier before the German claimed a single-season, record setting eighth consecutive victory on the back of yet another quick start.

Vettel was dominant again in Austin, leading for all but two laps and finishing more than six seconds ahead of second placed Romain Grosjean of Lotus.

“We have to remember these days. I love you guys. We have an incredible team spirit. I’m so proud of you. I love you,” Vettel was overheard telling his team on radio.

Webber recovered from a poor start in the opening seconds to overtake Lewis Hamilton before almost slipping past Grosjean late in the race; coming from 5.5 seconds back to within a second by lap 32.

Reflecting on his third place finish, Webber said narrowly missing out on pole position cost him a shot at a better result.

“I think pole was very important yesterday and it probably cost me a better result today. I should have qualified better and it was difficult to be in a good position on Turn One from there. We all wanted to be on the outside,” he said.

“It was not easy to pass Romain who was very clean but a good job for the whole team and I’m happy to finish on the podium on what will be my last F1 race here in America. But see you next year with Porsche.”
