Deck by Sol Republic and Motorola Kicks Ass

Oh yes, yet another Bluetooth speaker… It’s almost as if there is a requirement for a new one to be released once a month.  Some sort of collab between all the tech companies to oversaturate the market… Regardless, it’s one of the reasons why you’ll rarely see us featuring a Bluetooth speaker system here at CraveOnline.

That is, unless the speaker is of a Bad Ass nature.  Very few have made the cut.  Our latest gladiator is the Deck by Sol Republic in association with Motorola.

I’ll put the general specs below so you tech heads can dig into the nitty gritty of why this speaker works so well and sounds so good, but before that let me briefly tell you three reasons why I’m in love.  Then I’ll let you get back to kicking off your weekend.

This may sound trivial, but if you’ve shopped Bluetooth speakers, it is a huge plus.  So many of the speakers on the market now are “side-shooting” speakers.  This gives you about 120 degrees of sound with a sweet spot about 8-10 out directly in front of the speaker.  This is fine if you’re by yourself, but many times you are using these speakers with a small group of friends or even at a party.  Since the Deck’s speakers shoot up into the air, and out in all directions, you do truly get 360 degrees of full sound that sounds the same regardless of where you’re sitting.

So this is where teaming up with Motorola likely paid off.  Most Bluetooth speakers on the market have a standard range of about 33 feet.  Like I said in the title of this article, the Deck kicks ass.  Meaning it kicks the ass of the other speakers on the market.  I regularly take my Bluetooth speakers to the beach, and many times I keep my phone in my pocket while I’m running around playing football or paddle ball or whatever the hell I’m doing that day.  It’s pretty easy to go 33 feet away from a Bluetooth speaker. But with 300 feet to play with, I’ve been pretty happy.  Plus, the Outdoor Boost mode works amazing on those beach trips.  There’s nothing worse than the natural sounds of the ocean’s waves drowning out my music.  No longer a problem.

Finally, the 100%, hands down, most awesome aspect of this speaker.  Maybe your friends aren’t huge fans of your taste in music.  In the days of yore, they would have to suffer.  Well they must suffer no more!  The Deck will take up to five Bluetooth devices at a time and works alot like a jukebox.  If you’re connected, you can pick a song off your playlist and once the current song is finished, it switched over to your selection!  It’s a great way to give multiple friends and multiple tastes in music the opportunity to enjoy the party.

Ok so that’s it for my Top 3, here’s the general specs:

  • R2 Sound Engine — Powered by larger-than-average R2 Sound Engines and a bass port, DECK delivers bigger sound than you expect.
  • NFC/Bluetooth Pairing — Tap and pair to join the party and connect your phone or other mobile music device to DECK
  • Outdoor Boost — Hit the Outdoor Mode button for a boost in sound you can hear further away — in the yard, at the park or on the beach.
  • Stereo Out — Connect DECK to any sound system or daisy chain DECKS together for a wall of sound by using our Stereo-Out jack. You can even connect your old school phone or music player with our Stereo-In jack.
  • Speakerphone — DECK moonlights as an undercover Speakerphone so all your calls can be hands-free.
  • One Year Warranty — SOL REPUBLIC products are guaranteed to last. They will repair or replace most products at no charge for a period of one year from the date of purchase.
