Week 5 Fantasy Football Rankings: Yahoo, ESPN, CBS

Things are starting to shake out with a month of action done. The pretenders are being discovered and the breakthrough players are solidifying their starting roles. For every C.J. Spiller there is a Bilal Powell.

Such is the world of fantasy football. If you didn’t get a breakthrough candidate, you’ll need to rely on the weekly matchups more than ever. With that note, here is week 5’s consensus rankings for Yahoo, CBS and ESPN to help guide your path to fantasy glory.

QUARTERBACKS

QB Notes – Is Denver Shangri-La? The thin air is making Peyton Manning look like a young man again… Come to think on it, someone might have turned back time with Michael Vick and Phillip “I thought someone put up a dam on that” Rivers… Brees has an easy day against the surprisingly ineffective Bears pass defense (ranked 24th)… CBS has Terrelle Pryor out and showing 0 points. ESPN and CBS have him ranked… If you are in need a QB in a pinch, take a look at Andy Dalton against the Pats.

RUNNING BACKS

RB Notes – Damn you, Trent Richardson. I wasn’t the only one that drafted you high… Welcome back, Eddie Lacy from a week off for a concussion… Reggie Bush has a tough assignment against the Packers D. Proceed with caution… What does ESPN know about Jamaal Charles that Yahoo and CBS don’t? They have him ranked 11th… Danny Woodhead for San Diego is a great sleeper pick that barely missed the list.

WIDE RECEIVERS

WR Notes – Two Broncos and two Packers in the top 10. Is there any doubt to the high powered offense? … And, fellow Bronco, Eric Decker, barely missed the cut… Speaking of Denver, expect major results from Dez Bryant going against their defense who is 30th ranked against receiving… I am a big fan of Buffalo’s Josh Gordon this week. CBS had him ranked 6th this week… if you could figure out who in New Orleans will get the touchdown look, then you’ll do well. But, if you could predict that with consistently then you may want to try Wall Street.

TIGHT ENDS

KICKERS

Kicker Notes – Newcomer to the top of the projection charts is the Eagles’ Alex Henry. He’s only owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues… JAX’ Josh Scobee owned in only 1% of Yahoo leagues. Really, he is due!… Your last sleeper is the Chargers’ Nick Novack. He’ll reach double digits against Oakland this week.

DEFENSE

DEF Notes – As bad as the 49ers have played lately, is there any surprise that all three sites like Houston this week? … The Bills feel like an iffy choice here against a pesky Browns team… and of course, there is the weekly motto around here…

Good luck out there… and when in doubt, always bet against the Jaguars.
