Steven Bochco Returns To TV With ‘Murder In The First’

Back in 2008, storied TV creator Steven Bochco launched his second cable series, “Raising The Bar” at TNT where it ran for a single season. Although the series was canceled in 2009, Bochco is back at TNT after a four year absence from television.

TNT has announced that Bochco’s “Murder In The First” has been ordered to series, with an expected debut in Summer 2014. “Murder In The First” will take place in San Francisco and center on a single case as it unfolds across a single season. Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson respectively star as homicide detectives Terry English and Hildy Mulligan who find themselves drawn into a seemingly ordinary murder investigation that has ties to tech guru Erich Blunt (Tom Felton) just as he plans to take his company public.

Mimi Kirkland, Raphael Sbarge, Ian Anthony Dale, Bess Rous and Steven Weber co-star in the series, which was created by Bocho and Eric Lodal. The premise of the series seems to borrow some elements from Bochco’s “Murder One,’ which innovated the single case per season format almost twenty years ago.

Bochco has a reputation for changing the landscape of TV through his various series, including ‘Hill Street Blues,” “NYPD Blue,” “LA Law” and “Doogie Howser, M.D..”

“Murder In The First” Season 1 will consist of ten episodes. It will be one three new series coming to TNT next summer, alongside action dramas “The Last Ship’ and “Legends.”
