FX Developing ‘American Psycho’ Sequel Series

One of the central questions of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel “American Psycho” and the American Psycho film starring Christian Bale (pictured above) was whether the main character, Patrick Bateman had actually committed the heinous crimes in the story or whether it was all in his head.

However, a new “American Psycho” TV series is in development at FX and its premise not only suggests that Patrick Bateman’s crimes were real, it will depict Bateman taking on a serial killer apprentice decades after the events of the movie.

For FX’s “American Psycho,” Bateman will be depicted in his 50s as he continues his killing spree in the present day. Both the original novel and the film were set during the ‘80s

The new “American Psycho” pilot is being written by Stefan Jaworski, who will executive produce the potential series alongside Allison Shearmur and Ed Pressman in association with Lionsgate TV and FX Productions.

With “Dexter” ending its run in a few weeks, the number of serial killer related TV series will drop to three: (“Hannibal,” “Bates Motel” and “The Following”). If “American Psycho” gets picked up by FX, there would once again be four serial killer TV shows.
