Jason David Frank Wants a PG-13 Green Ranger Movie

Twenty years ago this week, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” made its debut on Fox and it quickly became a global phenomena. While the franchise had an early peak in popularity, it’s never really gone away. There have been 17 incarnations of the TV series and two feature films.

Jason David Frank joined “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” during the first season as the Green Ranger Tommy Oliver. Frank quickly became one of the most popular characters on the show and stayed with the series into its third incarnation before returning for a guest appearance on “Power Rangers Wild Force” and a co-starring role in “Power Rangers Dino Thunder.”

While speaking with Complex, Frank not only expressed a willingness to return to the franchise, he also said that he wants to bring Tommy Oliver to the big screen.

“I’m talking to Saban about making a PG-13 Green Ranger movie,” related Frank. “ It’s just a matter of Saban stepping behind it. I was an X-Men fan growing up; I loved Wolverine. I feel like the Green Ranger can step outside the box and be like the Wolverine of Power Rangers. That’s why I think he can handle his own movie. I love seeing the guys come up to me, they’re all tough, and say, ‘Oh dude, you’re Tommy? I feel 8 all over again.’ That’s awesome. I feel just as lucky to have fans as the fans have me. Fans are everything. Without the fans, I would not be here.”

A PG-13 Green Ranger movie would be a big departure for the franchise, but it could potentially bring back some of the older fans of the original series. Outside of “Power Rangers,” Frank has appeared in The Junior Defenders, The Blue Sun, The One Warrior and Fall Guy: The John Stewart Story.
