GRIMM 2.17 ‘One Angry Fuchsbau’

Episode Title: “One Angry Fuchsbau”

Writer: Richard Hatem

Director: Terence O’Hara

A toad-eating defense lawyer has Rosalee (Bree Turner) and her fellow jurors wrapped around his finger and Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) is bombarded with visions of Nick in this week’s episode of “Grimm.”

We’ve seen wesen pull some nasty tricks, but a Ziegevolk lawyer who can hypnotize witnesses and a jury into saying and believing whatever he wants is a new one. When Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) accompanies Rosalee to court, he gets a front row seat to the wesen litigator’s mind-bending performance. Realizing a guilty man is about to walk free, Monroe alerts Nick and Hank, who quickly realize the lawyer’s using more than his legal expertise to win the case.

In the meantime, Juliette continues to have visions of Nick she can’t quite make sense of. Nick (David Giuntoli) convinces Monroe to take her to the trailer where she marvels at Aunt Marie’s curious collection of old “fairy tale” books, strange potions and medieval weapons.

What’s confusing about this storyline is that Juliette knows she was put under some sort of spell, which caused her to lose her memory and become uncontrollably attracted to Captain Renard. Nick doesn’t want to explain why he has a morning star and a bottle of Siegbarste Gift in the trailer even though he has Monroe bring Juliette there. Has it occurred to him that if he came clean to Juliette earlier on, maybe none of this would have happened?

Totally confused and not really getting the answers she needs from Monroe or Nick, Juliette decides to contact Pilar, whom she sees in one of her visions, along with Nick. Perhaps she’ll be able to explain things to Juliette in a way that won’t totally freak her out – as if anything could at this point.

Back in the courthouse, the lawyer is on the verge of getting his client off the hook for murder while Nick, Hank (Russell Hornsby), Monroe and Rosalee race to find some potion that will nullify his powers. They find it,0 but of course it involves getting some impossible ingredient – in this case, the man’s sweat. The good news is we get to see Bud in action, this time as a good samaritan who picks up the man and drops him off at his hotel after Monroe gives him a good scare.

Rosalee brews up the concoction, which Monroe must inject in the toad the lawyer eats, which gives him his abilities. When Monroe finds two toads in the man’s briefcase, he panics but luckily, he eats the right one and is unable to sway the jury in his closing arguments.

Aside from the slimy lawyer and Juliette reconnecting with her psychic friend, Pilar, “One Angry Fuchsbau” also gives us an update on the Adalind/Eric/Renard situation. Renard (Sasha Roiz) warns Nick and Hank about the presence of a Verrat agent in Portland while over in Vienna, Adalind (Claire Coffee) gives Eric (James Frain) the bad news about the key. Eric decides a trip to Portland is in order and he also picks up on the change in Adalind, though she laughs it off.

On the plus side, “One Angry Fuchsbau” sees Juliette start to take matters into her own hands, instead of waiting around for Nick to finally start explaining why his aunt left him a trailer full of sideshow artifacts. Unfortunately, the Royal Family storyline is still dragging on, though we’ll probably get some sort of showdown between Renard and his brother closer to the season finale. Renard’s intentions remain a mystery, though it looks like he’s one of the good guys… for now.
