Shaquille O’Neal Returns to Video Games

I think we can all agree Shaq Fu was an interactive travesty, as the game still remains one of the best punchlines imaginable when thinking up a video game-themed joke. Yet, Shaq Fu remains at the forefront of our collective gaming conscious somehow; the world’s best scientists have not been able to crack that mystery. And now, developer Hiptic Games, the developer behind Go Ninja, is bringing the Shaq-attack back one more time.

In an exclusive interview with VentureBeat, Hiptic’s co-founder and creative director Long Vo revealed a new project called ShaqDown that was internally labeled Shaq Fu 2 during development. “When we were working on the game, we codenamed it Shaq Fu 2,” joked Vo. “This game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where Shaq has become a legend, and it’s up to him to save humanity from mutant zombies.”

But make no mistake. This is more a spiritual sequel than an actual sequel to Shaq Fu. The game even received Shaq’s blessing, telling the studio to “have fun with it.” The game will be launching by year’s end on iOS and Android devices.

Man, maybe we jumped the gun on our year-end “best of” lists? You can read more about ShaqDown at VentureBeat
