Late-night host Seth Meyers appeared on his show to mock US President Donald Trump for being “on the nose” about the judge-ordered removal of his name from the Kennedy Center.
The removal followed when Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that Trump’s handpicked Board of Trustees had acted unlawfully in December 2025 when they voted to rename the venue the “Trump-Kennedy Center.” The judge firmly stated that Congress designated the building as a living memorial to John F. Kennedy, meaning only Congress has the power to alter it.
Seth Meyers comments on Donald Trump’s reaction to his name being removed from the Kennedy Center
Meyers especially attacked the fact that a photographer was able to capture a glimpse of the construction workers removing Trump’s name from the edifice, despite the administration’s desperate attempts to cover the area with tarps and scaffolding, so that the removal is not visible to the public. Meyers joked, “But, as usual, Trump couldn’t even manage a competent cover-up.”
Meyers also mocked Trump’s rising unpopularity in the arts domain, pointing to the crowd gathered at the site to watch the removal. He commented,
“Imagine being so disliked that a crowd forms to watch your name get taken off of something.” Doubling down on his argument, the NBC host said, “You know, Trump’s the only guy on earth who could get people excited about white out, which, fun fact, is also what he’s been applying to his hand.”
Meyers did not let the fact that the photographer managed to catch a glimpse of the embarrassing event go unnoticed, saying, “This picture sums up everything about Trump: trying to hide an embarrassing thing, but failing, and in the process making it even more embarrassing.”
The court had firmly denied two appeals by the Department of Justice and gave the administration a strict 14-day-timeline to remove Trump’s name from the iconic landmark.
