Something tells me that even the cheapest people out there don’t have the amount of people that this money launderer had in his mattress.
Unless money is raining down from the sky, chances are that you are broke as all hell, and while most of us just work to get our cash, some people do whatever they can to get their paws on some cash — even involve themselves in a pyramid scheme like the guy in this story did.
Cops caught up to 28-year-old New York resident Cleber Rene Rizerio Rocha (what a name), who has allegedly been involved in a money laundering scheme. Rocha was in a pyramid scheme with Marlborough, Massachusetts company TelexFree, a VOIP phone service.
Here’s how it went down: TelexFree and its few customers reeled in their revenue from people buying into the company after they would respond to ads online promising large payouts. Investors would then be paid with money from new recruits — friends and family of earlier investors. This scheme is have said to have targeted Brazilian immigrants in Massachusetts.
All in all this ruse caused around one million people internationally to be cheated out of $1.8 billion, according to authorities. And $20 million of that was inside Rocha’s mattress. Take a look at the photo of Rocha’s bed below released by the US Attorney’s office.
I don’t know about you, but I think I want in on this scheme.
Rocha of course has been charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering. But still, pretty impressive how he was able to hide this in his bed.
