Frank Grillo Cautiously Optimistic for Crossbones Return in Captain America 3

When last we saw Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow at the end of Captain America: The Winter Solider, the disgraced S.H.I.E.L.D./HYDRA agent was scorched to a crisp and in pretty poor shape after an ill-fated encounter with Sam Wilson aboard the crashing S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier.

But considering comics fans know Rumlow eventually becomes major Cap villain Crossbones, it isn’t much of a stretch to assume a full return — skull mask and all — maybe as soon as Captain America 3.

So far, Grillo isn’t doing anything to dampen that enthusiasm. In fact, in an interview with Collider (re-reported by Crave film site SuperHeroHype), Grillo said he’s betting on a rematch against Falcon and the good Captain.

“I’m cautiously optimistic that you will see me in the not too distant future in the next installment of Captain America,” Grillo said.  “We’ve had multiple discussions about what comes after that, that thing…So, you know, it’s obvious Rumlow is covered in rubble and burned to crisp at the end, but you see he’s still there. They don’t do that for no reason.”

Since Marvel Studios and directors Anthony and Joe Russo have seems nothing but pleased with everything about Captain America: The Winter Solider, it seems like it’s safe to say Grillo knows what he’s talking about.  Of course, we’ll all find out for sure once casting announcements for CA3 start.  The film remains slated for a May 6, 2016 release.
