Sinister Six & Venom Movies Will Debut Before Amazing Spider-Man 4

Spider-Man, you’re going to have to carry that weight a long time. Amazing Spider-Man 2 producer Matt Tolmach has just revealed plans for the future of Sony’s superhero franchise, and it’s a combination of the ambitious and the disconcerting.

“Before we know what we do with Spider-Man 4, we’re going to do Sinister SixVenom and Spider-Man 3,” Tolmach told Den of Geek in an exclusive interview. “There is going to be a lot of crossover in those movies. So we’re just not at Spider-Man 4, because we still have a whole other Spider-Man movie and two other movies. So we don’t know yet what [Spider-Man 4] is going to be.”

Not having definite plans for the fourth movie in a franchise (or the sixth if you count the spin-offs) while you’re still in post-production on the second may not seem like news, but get this: Sony has already announced a release date for Amazing Spider-Man 4, and it’s May 4, 2018. That’s not all that far away, particularly if Sony is supposed to be hard at work on an interconnected multi-year franchise.

Den of Geek asked Matt Tolmach to clarify those plans, to which Tolmach responded that the May 2018 release date will definitely be for a Spider-Man movie, but not necessarily Amazing Spider-Man 4. Could Venom or Sinister Six,  movies about Spider-Man’s villains instead of Spidey himself, be planning to steal his release date? Oh, those pesky bad guys. They’ll pilfer anything that isn’t nailed down.
