Comic-Con 2013: Avengers 2 is Now Avengers: Age of Ultron

Not to be upstaged by Warner Bros. Superman/Batman news and the massive Fox X-Men-apalooza explosion in Hall H earlier in the day, Marvel Studios closed out the afternoon of huge superhero movie announcements Saturday with the official title of the much-anticipated Avengers sequel — Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Joss Whedon was on hand to screen a short clip for the Hall H crowd, featuring animated close-ups of metal being pounded over dialogue cuts from the first Avengers film.  That metal object spins toward the camera to reveal the head of Avengers’ uber-enemy Ultron.  You can check out the logo for the new film above.

The Age of Ultron story may not ring any bells for old-school Avengers fans — but current Avengers readers know Age of Ultron as a 10-issue limited series published earlier this year.  The story featured the latest rebirth of Henry Pym’s baby boy, who finally succeeds in conquering the planet.

Shooting begins next March before Avengers: Age of Ultron rolls into theaters May 1, 2015.
