Fallout 4 Far Harbor PS4 Performance Issues May Force You to Delete the Game

The Fallout 4 Far Harbor DLC’s PS4 performance issues were so bad that some players may have to delete the game and all add-on content stored on their console, developer Bethesda has revealed.

While most performance issues can be solved with a simple patch, Bethesda has instead had to effectively re-release Far Harbor, requiring players to uninstall their current version of the DLC before downloading the new one. If this still doesn’t work, Bethesda has informed players that they will have to delete Fallout 4 and all of its add-on content, before reinstalling it and hoping for the best.

This option is only available to North American players at the time of this writing, though Bethesda has stated it will be bringing the fix to Europe in the near future. Here’s the list of instructions Bethesda has given to players, outlining how they can download the new version of the Fallout 4 Far Harbor DLC:

  1. Confirm Fallout 4 is not running. Highlight Fallout 4 in your PS4 dashboard, press OPTIONS, and select CLOSE APPLICATION to ensure Fallout 4 is not running minimized.
  2. Select RELATED ITEMS. You’ll find this under the Fallout 4 icon in the PS4 dashboard.
  3. Select MY ADD-ONS.
  4. Navigate to the DOWNLOAD ARROW next to Far Harbor and select it.
  5. You should see a notice that Far Harbor has been Added to Downloads.
  6. Wait for the downloadable content to finish downloading and installing before starting Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 Far Harbor‘s performance issues were the subject of a great deal of criticism upon the DLC’s release, with the PS4 version of the game suffering from frame rate dips that could see it lock to 20 fps, though it would occasionally drop all the way down to 15 fps. Most games tend to solve such issues by releasing a downloadable update, though it seems that its performance problems were so prominent that Bethesda has had release a brand new version of the game on the US PlayStation Store. Hopefully this version will make its way to other regions sooner rather than later.
