Magic Johnson Says Prince Tried To Trash-Talk Him During A Basketball Game Once

Basketball legend Magic Johnson has revealed that the late Prince Rogers Nelson talked trash to him during a game of pick-up basketball once, because Prince apparently “thought he could play basketball”.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this week, Johnson discussed some of the best trash-talkers in the game, including Michael Jordan, but apparently The Purple One talked more trash than some of the biggest NBA megastars.

“He talked so much trash. He thought he had a real jump shot,” Johnson told Kimmel. “I had to remember it was Prince that I was playing against, so I had back off. But he really thought he could play basketball.”

Remember that skit from ‘Chappelle’s Show’ where Charlie Murphy’s crew were schooled by Prince And The Revolution in a pick-up game of hoops? If Johnson is right, that game definitely should have gone the other way.

During his chat with Kimmel, Johnson also spoke about the time Prince asked him to allow him and his friends into one of the Magic Johnson-branded movie theatres at 2am in the morning. Johnson obliged, of course, and witnessed Prince and a bus load of people dressed in their pyjamas arrive and file into the theatre for a late-night screening of an unnamed film. Because that’s the kind of person Prince was.

“It was a blessing to know the man,” Johnson says. Watch him discuss his relationships with Prince and Michael Jordan in the videos below.

Prince passed away in April this year, aged 57. As Music Feeds reports, he was remembered at a private ceremony at a Jehovah’s Witness temple just outside of Minneapolis earlier this month.
