NBC Orders Time Travel Drama From ‘Supernatural’ & ‘The Shield’ Creators

The last time that Supernatural creator Eric Kripke sold a drama to NBC, the result was the not-very-beloved series Revolution. The Shield creator Shawn Ryan has the opposite problem. He’s worked on a string of great shows like Terriers, The Chicago Code, and Last Resort that failed to go beyond a single season because audiences just didn’t find them in time. Here’s hoping they have better luck this time!

Deadline is reporting that Kripke and Ryan’s time travel drama, Timeless has received a series order from NBC, which makes it the third time travel series to get picked up alongside Fox’s Making History and ABC’s Time After Time. Timeless revolves around a scientist, a soldier, and a history professor who have been tasked to save America from destruction in the past. Someone has stolen a time machine with the intent of wiping away the United States from the pages of history. To save the nation, the newly formed team has to use the time machine’s prototype to go back in time and undo the damage.

Timeless stars Matt Lanter, Abigail Spencer, and Malcolm Barrett as the time traveling team. Neil Marshall directed the pilot episode, which is said to be among the highest testing pilots at NBC this year. NBC also picked up the supernatural drama, Midnight, Texas, as well as This Is Us, and Chicago Justice, yet another spinoff from Dick Wolf’s Chicago-verse series.

NBC will announce its new schedule later this month.
