Exclusive Premiere | Fantastic Negrito Reimagines The Classic ‘In The Pines’ on ‘Nic Harcourt’s Transmissions’

WorldArts, an interactive network that provides musicians a platform to engage with fans, peers, and industry professionals, is finding a firestorm of momentum and enthusiasm with “Nic Harcourt’s Transmissions,” a new performance and interview series driven by famed personality and music journalist Nic Harcourt. The bi-monthly web series has thus far featured country music icon Lucinda Williams, alt-rockers Chicano Batman, Silversun Pickups and more. The episodes are directed by LA artist and producer Kita Klane who brings a unique performer’s perspective to the production.

Crave is proud to exclusively premiere Fantastic Negrito’s “In The Pines” performance, a spine-tingling taste from the next “Transmissions” installment ahead of its official 4/12 release. It’s a new way to skin the beloved old folk staple from the 1870s, made famous by blues legend Leadbelly, who recorded several versions in the 1940s. Kurt Cobain took that ball and ran like hell with it during Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged performance in 1993.

Watch below as the tremendously skilled Oakland native slips a knife into a beautiful classic and twists it perfectly to his own flavor. This one requires attention and full volume.

“For ‘Transmissions’ we wanted to create something that felt intimate – that brought viewers up close to artists and gave the feeling that they were actually there witnessing the performance live,” said Harcourt in a statement. “With its global platform, understanding of music and depth of offerings, WorldArts made for the perfect partner.”

Additionally, WorldArts is looking for an unsigned band to be featured in the final episode of Season 1, performing three songs and being interviewed by the tastemaker himself, Nic Harcourt.
