Album Stream: Open Mike Eagle Drops Uplifting Soul on ‘Hella Personal Film Festival’ Collaboration Record

On the heels of his 2014 album, Dark Comedy and new EP, Split Pants At Sound Check!, Open Mike Eagle returns with an excellent collaborative album, Hella Personal Film Festival.

The record is a partner effort with British producer Paul White, and was recorded in London. It features guest appearances from Aesop Rock and Future Islands’ Sam Herring’s rapping alter ego, Hemlock Ernst.

Straddling both the comedy and hip-hop worlds, Open Mike Eagle hits a sunshine-smooth spot in the soul with textured depth and a captivating voice. Whether crooning or spitting rhymes, the Chicago native is definitely at the top of our watch list in 2016. The A.V. Club is streaming all of Hella Personal Film Festival in advance of the album’s release this Friday, and pre-orders for the record are available through both iTunes and Bandcamp now.
