Drake swept through SXSW in the eleventh hour for a grand-finale finish at the surprise OVO Sound label showcase at the Fader Fort, during the festival’s final night in Austin.
Roy Woods, Majid Jordan, and PartyNextDoor all performed, while the event featured the first-ever set from elusive R&B singer dvsn as well. Erykah Badu, Kelly Rowland, and Hannibal Buress were spotted in the crowd, undoubtedly to catch Drake’s six-song set.
At one point in his surprise performance, Drake casually dropped word on his hotly anticipated and long-delayed next album. “Views From the 6 coming next month,” he said. No new material was debuted, however, but he did work in the Meek Mill diss track “Back to Back” as well as his latest single, “Summer Sixteen”.
Earlier in the night, Fader’s closing party featured performances by Jazz Cartier, Yo Gotti, Gallant and Anderson.Paak, before OVO came through and filled the spot with Canadian talent.
