Uh-oh: The Division Will Have Exclusive Monthly Events Only Available to Season Pass Holders

Ubisoft has released more information regarding The Division‘s season pass, and those who were planning on buying the game without it will likely be a little disheartened by some of the exclusive content the publisher is planning.

According to a blog post from Ubisoft, purchasing the $40 season pass for The Division will grant players “access to special monthly benefits including exclusive content drops and special events.” The publisher hasn’t specified what these special events will be, but cordoning off content from players who spent $60 on the game rather than $100 will likely not go down well.

The season pass will also see holders given access to the game’s first three expansions, titled Underground, Survival and Last Stand. All three expansions will be released over the course of the year, though there are no further details as to what they will entail.

Season passes are becoming increasingly controversial, as publishers seek to include more content in them in order to convince consumers to invest in them. This inevitably means that those who purchase the game without the season pass are left feeling short-changed, with them being locked out of certain content in order to convince them to lay down more cash.

It isn’t yet known whether the exclusive content drops handed to season pass owners will place other players at a disadvantage, nor the extent of the special events they’ll be able to partake in. The latter could be limited to double XP weekends, which we’ve seen employed by other season passes for games in the past. Ubisoft has yet to provide further information regarding the contents of The Division‘s season pass, though has stated that more details are coming soon.
