Alex Ferguson Says it Would be “Foolish” for Chelsea to Sack Mourinho

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken out about whether or not he believes Jose Mourinho should be removed from his post at Chelsea, saying that the club’s owners would be “foolish” to sack him.

Ferguson and Mourinho were rivals in the Premier League, though the retired ex-Man U boss has said that if Roman Abramovich were to axe Mourinho as Chelsea manager, that it would be a poor decision.

Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt London, Ferguson said: “There is no point in sacking one of the best coaches of all time. He [Abramovich] has sacked so many coaches in the last 10 years. I am sure he has learned by it.

“He has to trust and have confidence that Jose can turn it round. In every country he has managed in he has won the big trophies. It would be foolish to sack him. It would be bad management.”

Ferguson also said that he believes Chelsea’s poor run of form will soon come to an end, though conceded that this was the first time Mourinho has had to deal with adversity in his career as a football manager.

“Now is the first time he has been confronted with non-success during his whole career,”he continued.”For the first time in his life he has had to deal with bad publicity and adversity and that is a challenge.

“But there are signs they are getting back to a balance, although they lost on Saturday. All good leaders will eventually find a solution. I know the guy and I know the work he has done in football and I can’t see it lasting long.”

Chelsea lost 1-0 to Bournemouth in another upset that has continued a woeful season for the London outfit. They’re next set to play Porto in a Champions League group stage match at Stamford Bridge.
