First Game of Thrones Season 6 Poster Teases Bloody Jon Snow

This post contains spoilers up to the fifth season finale of Game of Thrones. But if you haven’t caught up by now, it’s entirely on you!

The closing moments of Game of Thrones Season 5 appeared to be the end of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) as he was dubbed a “traitor” by renegade members of the Night’s Watch and stabbed to death. But even though HBO and Harington spent months telling everyone that Jon Snow was dead, this is still Game of Thrones…and there is powerful magic in the fantasy world created by George R.R. Martin.

While Harington has been spotted on the set of Game of Thrones Season 6, the newly released teaser poster is the first official confirmation that Harington is back for the new season. But it certainly doesn’t shed much light on the current state of Jon Snow.

Think of him as Shrodinger’s Snow. He is both alive and dead until we know for certain how his fate will play out. And it was very, very convenient for the red priestess, Melisandre (Carice van Houten) to show up at Castle Black shortly before Jon’s murder. But what most fans seem to forget is that Melisandre has never resurrected anyone before, and she was visibly shocked when told that it was possible.

That said, the smart money is on Jon Snow returning from the grave. Whether he keeps his bastard last name remains to be seen.

The poster also appears to debunk rumors that Game of Thrones will be delayed. According to the image, it will return to HBO in April.
