X-Men Producer Simon Kinberg Offers Updates on Legion & Hellfire

Last month, Fox and Marvel TV announced a deal that could potentially bring two X-Men related television series to Fox and FX. On Fox, Hellfire would focus on the Hellfire Club organization during the ‘60s, as introduced by the X-Men: First Class movie and loosely based on characters from Marvel’s comic book universe. Meanwhile, FX will feature Legion, a series about David Heller, the mentally ill son of Charles Xavier, whose multiple personalities each possess a mutant power of their own. Fargo showrunner, Noah Hawley is overseeing Legion for FX.

During a recent interview with Collider, X-Men producer Simon Kinberg offered up a few updates about both new series.

Legion and Hellfire are both super active,” said Kinberg. “Hellfire we’re hoping to be shooting at the beginning of next year, the pilot. It’s been extraordinary working with Noah Hawley [on Legion], who I think is a straight up genius… So [Legion is] really ramping up now, the production’s ramping up to start shooting at the beginning of the year with FX.”

Kinberg added that “the TV shows give us an opportunity to go even further and certainly what I’m seeing on Legion with Noah and FX is an intent to do something completely original in the genre, in some ways to sort of blow up the paradigm of comic book or superhero stories and almost do our Breaking Bad of superhero stories.”

Although Kinberg pointed out that neither Legion nor Hellfire have series orders yet, he predicted that Legion would probably be in line with FX’s standard 10 to 13 episode series. Kinberg declined to speculate how many episodes that Hellfire could get on Fox.
