Throwback Thrills: NWA’s ‘Fuck Tha Police’ Demo Features Unheard Ice Cube Verse

An unreleased demo of NWA‘s “Fuck Tha Police” has hit the internet, featuring a previously unheard verse from Ice Cube. And for the time of release, it is absolute fire.

Originally released by NWA in 1988 and featured on their incendiary and influential debut album Straight Outta Compton, the track remains a cultural touchstone for a nation increasingly affected by police brutality, local militarization and deep racial conflict within law enforcement practices.

Listen below to newly surfaced lyrics by Ice Cube, edited out of the final release, including the lines: “Stereotypes of a brother like me/Down with the niggas from the CPT posse / They callin’ me a thug ’cause I carry a piece/That’s why I say, ’Fuck police!”

The biopic Straight Outta Compton was released last Summer, documenting the rise of NWA, the harbingers of the “gangsta rap” era. Talks of a sequel, focusing on the rise of the Dogg Pound, are underway.

Shortly before release, Dr. Dre delivered his swan-song Compton album to the world, scrapping the long-awaited Detox record for an incredible, star-studded release that included Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and a slew of new talent.
