Adele Regrets Working With Damon Albarn, Says It Was A “Don’t Meet Your Idol” Moment

Adele has responded to Damon Albarn‘s claims that her new album is “middle of the road” and that she’s “insecure” saying that she regrets working with him in the first place.

Albarn worked with Adele on tracks for her upcoming new album, however, none of them made the final cut with Adele telling Rolling Stone in a recent interview, “None of it was right. None of it suited my record.”

“It ended up being one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments,” she said.

“And the saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him.”

It seems it was his comments that she was “insecure” that stung the hardest, with Adele saying she’s “the least-insecure person,” she knows.

“I was asking his opinion about my fears, about coming back with a child involved — because he has a child — and then he calls me insecure?”

She didn’t spend the whole interview dwelling on Albarn, however, rather taking the opportunity to detail her forthcoming album which does features collaborations with hitmaking machine Max Martin and Laneway-bound crooner Tobias Jesso Jr. She also chatted about some of her favourite artists which include FKA twigs, Alabama Shakes, Rihanna and a certain R&B hero who’s taking forever to release a new album – just like Adele.

“I’m just fucking waiting for Frank fucking Ocean to come out with his album,” she said candidly. “It’s taking so fucking long.” For the record, she did acknowledge that particular statement is rich coming from her, having taken four years to follow-up 21

She also revealed that we could have had the album sooner, but a year and a half ago when she took demos to the legendary Rick Rubin, who helped out on 21, he told her, “I don’t believe you.” The tracks were light pop tracks rather than the weighty ballads we’re used to from Adele and he sent her back to the drawing board.

“I think that’s where a lot of people go wrong, thinking that people will buy any old shit from you,” Adele says talking about how she’s not comfortable putting things out just for the sake of it.

Adele’s 25 is due out 20th November and if Hello‘s 200 million plus views on YouTube is anything to go by, it’s going to be another massive record from her.
