What It Costs To Go Back To The Future

In 1985, a bumbling scientist and his teenage cohort changed the course of pop culture thanks in part to time travel.  First the two explored 1955, then 2015 and finally 1885.  Within the span of just five short years, the Back to the Future trilogy became one of the biggest film franchises ever.  Now, the hit sci-fi films are as popular as ever, returning to theaters to celebrate “Back to the Future Day”, creating new time traveling dreams for a younger generation.  In fact, according to Fandango, the Back to the Future franchise had the highest ticket sales of any movie not named Star Wars on Wednesday.

Everywhere you turn there’s talk of hoverboards, Pepsi Perfect and the thought of the Chicago Cubs erasing a 107 year World Series drought.  But there’s one thing the blockbuster films failed to mention and that’s just how much it cost to take a sweet ride through time.  Well, the folks at Fandango have taken it upon themselves to figure out just how much money you’ll need to build your own present day DeLorean — and here’s a hint: it’s not cheap. The plutonium alone would run you about $67,300! No wonder Doc ripped off the Libyans. Check out the video here, before you head to eBay:

While Doc might have been onto something, you’d need a copy of Gray’s Sports Almanac to fund that project – Kickstarter simply wouldn’t do.  Looks like time travel might have to wait for now.
