Harry Kane has spoken about Liverpool players’ reactions to Jurgen Klopp being appointed their new manager, with the Tottenham striker revealing that those were called up for England for their 3-0 victory against Lithuania expressed excitement at working under the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

Tottenham will be Liverpool’s first opponents with Klopp as their manager, and Kane acknowledged that his rivals will likely be firing on all cylinders to impress the German.

Speaking after the match against Lithuania, Kane said: “I think we’ve out-run every team we have played this season. That’s a sign we’re playing the manager’s tactics right and we are fit enough to do it. So it’s a case of doing it again on Saturday.

“Liverpool are going to have a new manager and they will be up for it. In the first couple of game everybody tries to impress a new manager so they will probably have that little five per cent extra. We expect that.

“But we have out-run every team we have played and will be looking to do so again. The Liverpool players at England could not wait to get back to start working under Klopp. But I am focused on Tottenham and what we have to do.”

The Premier League match will be hosted at White Hart Lane, and Liverpool will be looking to return to form after a disappointing 1-1 draw to derby rivals Everton, which prompted the swift sacking of Brendan Rodgers. Klopp signed a deal with Liverpool’s owners ahead of the international break, and instantly endeared himself to supporters of the club by branding himself “the normal one” after being asked whether he had a Mourinho-esque moniker for himself.
