Jurgen Klopp Calls Alex Ferguson the “John Lennon of Football”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had some kind words for former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, calling him the “John Lennon of football.”

With Ferguson having previously praised Klopp by questioning whether his appointment at Liverpool could lead to the Merseyside club overtaking United, Klopp has decided to return the compliment, saying that the legendary manager could be “the best ever.”

Speaking ahead of his first match against Manchester United as Liverpool manager, Klopp said: “I had a few really good moments with him It’s a big honour to talk to Sir Alex, for a manager it’s the best you can do to listen, although I needed ten minutes to understand.

“Maybe he is the greatest ever – the John Lennon of football. It was really impressive to talk to him.”

Klopp has done a fantastic job at ingratiating himself with Liverpool’s fans, though perhaps comparing the ex-manager of one of the club’s biggest rivals with a Liverpudlian icon isn’t the best move. However, considering how much the Premier League as a whole has warmed to him, we’re sure that many will overlook this indiscretion.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool are will face each other off the back of 3-3 draws, with United having only secured a point from their high-scoring game against Newcastle, while Liverpool managed to grab a point from their match against Premier League leaders Arsenal. The two teams will play each other on Sunday.
