How To Cancel Your Apple Music Subscription Before The Free Trial Ends

For a while, I was excited about Apple Music as a devotee of the Apple universe. But soon after launch, I found surprisingly sharp dissatisfaction with the new service as I navigated the labyrinthian platform, equally frustrated with its lack of intuitive functionality and clear rationale as I was intrigued by its promising features. But duplicate songs, missing tracks, syncing problems and a general sense of rigidity has made the service a massive headache – and certainly not worth $10 per month.

So where does that leave us? For those who plugged their credit card numbers into the system for the free three-month trial, it’s about to leave us ten bucks out of pocket. After Sept. 30, the testing period expires and iTunes will automatically start charging Apple Music trial users monthly rates. That is, unless you follow the steps below to make sure you’re not contributing a single dime to this clunky headache.

How to deactivate your Apple Music subscription on iTunes:

1. Click on your account icon in the upper right of iTunes, and select “Account Info”

2. Go to Settings and click “Manage” next to subscriptions

3. Click the “Edit” button next to “Apple Music Membership” or click “Off” next to Automatic Renewal.

Deactivating your Apple Music subscription on iOS is just as easy:

1. Go to your account (the silhouette icon) in the upper left of the Apple Music app:

2. Tap “View Apple ID”

3. Scroll down and tap “Manage” under in the Subscriptions section and turn of auto-renewal:

If only getting rid of that goddamned U2 album were so easy…
