Band of The Month Interview: The Crash Kings Hit Their Sonic Stride

Over the month of August, Crave has been proud to bring you an exclusive CraveOnstage studio session with Los Angeles rockers The Crash Kings, our featured Band of The Month artist.

Much like the buoyant energy of Cold War Kids, the trio are centered on rhythmically dramatic piano arrangements with magnetic melodies. Brothers Tony Beliveau (vocal/keyboards) and Mike Beliveau (bass), alongside drummer Tommy Rose, are refreshingly untethered from the standard guitar-driven rock sound – because they don’t actually use guitars.

The Crash Kings’ light psychedelica weaves through Tony’s endearing pop-hook rich melodies built on Mike’s thick, fuzzy bass foundation and Tommy’s metronomically tight kitwork. After the success of their recent EP Live Nudes, the guys settled in to work on their third album, to be released in late 2015.

We first brought you a beautiful version of “Hesitate” off the band’s remarkable Dark of The Daylight, and followed with the perfectly balanced piano-pop gem “Some Call It Love”. Then the boys gave new life to “Half a Face,” the second single from their Live Nudes EP, released earlier this year.

To round out their run as our Band of The Month for August, we sat down with the trio to explore the road ahead, the new album, the need to constantly challenge each other and more.

Pick up their music on iTunes, and keep up with The Crash Kings at their official site, as well as on Twitter and Facebook.
