Taiwanese McDonald’s “Goddess” Weiwei Causes Chaos in Fast Food Restaurant

In today’s “odd news from a foreign country,” a female employee at a McDonald’s in Taiwan is reportedly causing chaos in the fast food chain, as men are lining up to speak with her rather than lining up to get their hands on a Big Mac.

Cashier Wei Han Xu, known as Weiwei, has now become something of a minor celebrity in the region, amassing over 87,000 likes on her Facebook page, along with appearing on a selection of Taiwanese variety shows. Weiwei has also garnered a part-time job as a model as a result of her new-found exposure, though she reportedly still works in the McDonald’s that made her famous.

The images of Weiwei were first posted by Taiwanese blogger Raindog, though it seems her public profile increased dramatically after photographs of her cosplaying whilst working (this is apparently a thing that happens in Taiwan’s McDonald’s restaurants) started gaining some traction.

McDonald’s is different in Taiwan.

According to Rocket News, Taiwanese McDonald’s restaurants actively hire attractive female employees and encourage them to dress up in outfits such as the one seen above. It’s not exactly practical, and the business practice of turning McDonald’s into a Hooters is questionable, but it certainly seems to be effective.
