Comic Scribe Ed Brubaker Confirms Gig on HBO’s Westworld

Earlier this year, comic book writer Ed Brubaker teased his current job in television as the supervising producer of an upcoming HBO TV series. Now, Brubaker has updated his twitter account to confirm that his new job is on Westworld, the adaptation of Michael Crichton’s 1973 classic film.

Prior to this, Brubaker has been widely known for his runs on Batman, Daredevil, Gotham Central, Catwoman, and Captain America, where he reintroduced Bucky as the Winter Soldier and inspired the film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Brubaker has also frequently collaborated with artist Sean Phillips on several comics including Sleeper, Fatale, Criminal, Incognito, and The Fade Out. More recently, Brubaker left Marvel to focus on his creator owned comic books which are published through Image Comics.

The Westworld series is Brubaker’s first gig in television, but not his first brush with Hollywood. Brubaker’s Angel of Death was produced as a Crackle original movie in 2009, and he has written a few unproduced scripts for television.

Westworld takes place in the near future as the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin collide in some extremely unpleasant ways. The series features Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins, Jr., Simon Quarterman and Angela Sarafyan. The new take on Westworld was created by Jonathan Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Person of Interest) and Lisa Joy. J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, and Bryan Burk are executive producing the series alongside Nolan and Joy.

HBO will premiere Westworld in 2016.
