Mumford & Sons will “Definitely” Tour Australia in 2015

Folk Stadium rock superstars Mumford & Sons have said they will “definitely” tour Australia this year, after teasing fans with the prospect of a 2015 tour over the last few weeks.

Speaking with triple j Breakfast hosts Matt Okine and Alex Dyson today, Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett confirmed that the British band will return to Australia to tour later this year, but wouldn’t lock in anything more specific.

“We’ll definitely be over this year and we’re really excited about it… I was trying to come up with a clever way to get around that and come up with a month that doesn’t exist,” Lovett joked. Hear his full interview with triple j, below.

Having now detailed their forthcoming album Wilder Mind, and shared its first single Believe (below), its clear the band’s promise to ditch the banjos are being upheld.

Mumford & Sons are planning small shows to road-test their new tracks with some new live musicians this year — only this morning they played for a 350-strong crowd in London — and they’re making sure the new tracks don’t leak.

“We’ve asked everyone to hand their phones in so there won’t be bad recordings of the [new] songs,” Lovett told triple j. “We’ll see how that goes. Ultimately we just want to get in a room with a couple hundred people and play them the record.”

That being said, Mumford & Sons have also locked in a spot on the huge 2015 Bonnaroo festival lineup, and will no doubt play some pretty huge venues when they finally make their way down under.

Believe will see a physical release on 27th April, but is currently available digitally. Wilder Mind is set to drop on 1st May.
