32 Minute Video of Canceled Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Sequel Revealed

A 32-minute video of Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun, the planned successor to the PlayStation hit Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, has been released.

The video highlights a heavy Assassin’s Creed influence, with a large open-world environment to explore and a combat system borrowed straight from the Batman: Arkham series.

Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun was being developed by Climax Studios, who spent three years with the game before it was eventually canned in 2012. Very little information regarding the unreleased title has ever surfaced until now. You can watch the HD video right here

The huge outpouring of information regarding the canceled title was released by NeoGAF user Mama Robotnik, who also posted some images revealing the lore of the game’s world, which you can view below:

Though Dead Sun was canceled, its development at least partially led to the creation of the PC free-to-play multiplayer game Nosgoth, which went into open beta earlier this year. Nosgoth was originally intended to be the multiplayer component of Dead Sun, but following the game’s cancellation it was fleshed out and turned into its own standalone release.

Soul Reaver fans will be disappointed that they will never get their hands on the game shown in the video, it’s perhaps best that Square Enix put it aside considering that it appears to be hugely derivative of every other action-adventure game released since the first AC/Arkham games. It’d be great to see Legacy of Kain make a return, but when/if it does, it will hopefully follow its own path.
