Rumor: Ubisoft Has Cancelled Assassin’s Creed Unity Season Pass [UPDATE: Free Game Offer]

Update: Ubisoft has released a statement saying that ‘The Dead Kings’ DLC featured in Assassin’s Creed Unity’s Season Pass will be available to all for free, while the publisher will be giving out a free Ubisoft game to those who have already purchased the Season Pass from the following list: The Crew, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Rayman Legends or Just Dance 2015. Ubisoft has now discontinued sales of the Season Pass.

Original Story: Ubisoft has allegedly cancelled Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s Season Pass, with the company giving out a Ubisoft game as a refund, a German website has claimed.

GamersGlobal.de has claimed that all console owners of the game will get ‘The Dead Kings’ DLC for free, with a NeoGAF user spotting that the UPlay link for the DLC doesn’t work, and that it has also apparently been removed from both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace.

Assassin’s Creed Unity launched with a myriad of performance problems, many of which Ubisoft is set to rectify in an upcoming patch that will reportedly address over 300 issues. If the company is to cancel its Season Pass that will be an unprecedented move for the gaming industry, and the only reasoning we could possibly think of that would lead them to pull the DLC is so they could invest more time in fixing the game.

However, it still seems unlikely that they would create such a PR fiasco in order to pool their resources together to work on the base game, especially when a number of its issues are already in the process of being rectified. Take this rumor with a pinch of salt, but if it IS true, then we can only imagine the kind of consumer backlash the publisher will receive.
