Despite the New Nintendo 3DS XL seemingly being designed with the people who haven’t yet jumped on the 3DS bandwagon in mind, Nintendo has maintained that it is a console it wants current 3DS, 2DS and 3DS XL owners to switch to. However, they’re not exactly making that task an easy one, as the company has posted a whopping 16-step guide highlighting just how difficult and awkward it is to transfer data from the old 3DS XL console to the new one.

As Nintendo has still yet to adopt cloud-based storage, the transfer between the two systems will require you to use your PC, with you also having to use a #0 Phillips Screwdriver in order to remove the microSD card from the back of the New Nintendo 3DS XL. That’s right, you literally have to take your console apart in order to transfer data between the two systems.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL will launch on February 13th in the US and Europe, though the console’s flagship game Xenoblade Chronicles 3D will be available a little while later on April 10th in the US, and April 2nd in Europe/Japan.
While the other games in the 3DS’ library will also work with the New Nintendo 3DS XL, Xenoblade will utilize the console’s greater specs and extra analog control stick, meaning that it will only be playable with the upcoming 3DS console.
