Watch Katy Perry Roar During Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show

Katy Perry‘s halftime performance at Super Bowl XLIX exceeded the hype-wave expectations as the “Roar” star took the stage at the University of Phoenix Stadium field in Glendale, Ariz. halfway through the matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.

Though the Pats would go on to win through a horrifically bad final-moments play call, Perry delivered one hell of a performance, first appearing on a monstrous cat before consistently plowing through a kaleidoscope collection of hits with the help of some special guests, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott. Wait, is that Crave’s former Band of The Month Steel Panther she’s riding in on?

While it was cool to see Missy onstage again, the show did seem to dip when its “special guest” was revealed. Perry had been hyping the reveal all week, despite the news leaking early: “When you hear the first ring of the chord, I think jaws will drop and faces will melt,” she promised.

Reality check: Missy’s last song to hit the charts was in 2008, and it peaked at No. 95. So faces didn’t exactly melt. But it was among the more visually dazzling and entertaining Super Bowl Halftime Shows in recent memory, and whether or not she threw some ultra-subtle shade at Taylor Swift, that’s a win by us.

By the way, will Katy’s koolaid-soaked goofball boyfriend Riff Raff enjoy this?

Probably not.
