Change Your Passwords: EA Origin Users are Being Charged for Games They Haven’t Bought

Users of EA’s Origin service have found their accounts being charged for games they haven’t purchased, leading to many changing their passwords and usernames whilst desperately attempting to contact EA customer support, which appears to be struggling under the weight of consumer complaints.

At the time of this writing Origin’s subreddit is littered with posts detailing how users’ accounts are seemingly being hijacked, with verification codes being sent to users despite them having not attempted to access their account. Users of the service are being encouraged to remove their credit card details from EA’s system, as many Origin account holders have found themselves being charged for games such as FIFA 15 and Watch Dogs.

Reddit user BabyTechno wrote: “I was notified on the 24th that FIFA 15 was purchased on my account. I tried to get hold of EA customer support on Friday the 26th, but they said there was a 900+ minute wait time. I’m on day 3 of waiting to be called back, and I’ve still heard nothing from them.

“I’ve removed the payment from my origin account that was used, changed my password, and enabled multi-step verification. Unfortunately since EA is taking so long to get back to me, I’ve issued a chargeback through my bank after cancelling my credit card.”

Though these issues are reportedly being rectified as soon as users manage to get in touch with EA’s customer support service, there have been lengthy wait times across the board meaning that many are still left out of pocket.

EA has yet to issue an official response to this huge issue, though we’ll update this post as and when they do.
