Judas Priest Playing Headliner-Sized Soundwave Sets

Soundwave 2015 will feature English heavy metal icons Judas Priest in full 90-minute sets when the festival tours Australia in February and March.

According to festival promoter AJ Maddah, the veteran band has “insisted” on playing longer sets despite more than 40 years on the road.

“Fellow metal fans, I am well fucking chuffed to announce the mighty Judas Priest are doing a 90 minute set at #SW15,” Maddah tweeted on Tuesday.

“Can’t take any credit. I had them down for 75 minutes. they insisted on 90.”

Although not official headliners, Judas Priest will soak up the 90-100 sets allotted usually only for Soundwave’s top attractions during the four-stop tour. Maddah had previously confirmed other set times as “70 mins for top bands. 60 mins for middle bands. 40 mins for small/new bands.”

The Birmingham five-piece will hit Australia on the back of their 17th studio album, Redeemer Of Souls, while also delving into their extensive back catalogue for Soundwave punters.

The festival is set to drop a third and final lineup announcement on Wednesday, December 17, described by Maddah as “slightly bigger” than last month’s 15-act addition featuring DragonForce, The Devil Wears Prada, Killer Be Killed and Evergreen Terrace.
