Hideo Kojima Debuts Metal Gear Online from Metal Gear Solid V

The multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was just debuted during the opening minutes of The Game Awards 2014. As a fan of Metal Gear Online in Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots, I’m sold.

Like its predecessor, Metal Gear Online will feature a very teamwork-oriented multiplayer that pits two teams against one another. One team was shown defending intel inside of a reinforced installation, while the other infiltrated the location using a variety of machines, including a bipedal weapon armed with machine guns.

The entire experience runs on the Fox Engine, meaning that not only does it look good, but gunplay is more precise than in the previous Metal Gear Online. Speaking of which, what was shown was very reminiscent of the previous multiplayer installment, only it was bigger and seemed to have more usable devices. There were also hints of The Phantom Pain‘s open-world roots with a vast environment.

Both Revolver Ocelot and Big Boss were shown as playable characters, and at the end, Big Boss took a selfie of himself choking out Ocelot.
